If you are applying for a government job in Pakistan, the first question is almost always the same: what will my salary be? The answer starts with the Basic Pay Scales. In the Federal Budget 2026-27, the Finance Division revised the Basic Pay Scales with effect from 1 July 2026, and the new BPS salary chart 2026 now applies to federal government employees — and, as provinces adopt it, to provincial staff as well.
This guide gives you the complete official chart for BPS-01 to BPS-22, explains what changed this year, and shows you how to calculate your expected total salary before you apply.
What Changed in the Revised Pay Scales 2026?
Three things matter in this revision:
- Ad-hoc allowances merged into basic pay. The Ad-hoc Relief Allowance 2022 and Ad-hoc Relief Allowance 2025 have been merged into the basic pay. They will no longer be paid as separate allowances — instead, your basic pay itself is higher, which also improves your house rent, increments and pension calculations.
- Point-to-point fixation. Serving employees keep the same stage they held on 30 June 2026. If you were at Stage 10 of a scale, you move to Stage 10 of the revised scale at the new rate.
- New annual increments. Every scale has a fixed annual increment, granted on 1 December each year, until you reach the maximum of your scale.
The chart below is based on the Finance Division’s revision of Basic Pay Scales 2026 (O.M. No. F.1(2)IMP/2026). Figures are basic pay only — allowances are added on top, as explained further down.

How to Calculate Your Total Monthly Salary
Basic pay is only the starting point. Your gross salary is:
Basic Pay + Allowances − Deductions = Net Salary
The main allowances added on top of basic pay are:
- House Rent Allowance: calculated as a percentage of your basic pay — 45% in the specified big cities and 30% in other stations, as per the applicable rules.
- Conveyance Allowance: a fixed monthly amount that depends on your scale.
- Medical Allowance: a fixed monthly amount for most scales.
- Department-specific allowances: many departments (health, police, judiciary, armed forces) pay additional allowances on top of these.
Example (estimate only): a fresh BPS-16 officer starts at a basic pay of Rs 33,720. Adding House Rent Allowance at 45% (big city) gives Rs 15,174, taking the total to Rs 48,894 — before conveyance, medical and other allowances, and before income tax and other deductions. Your actual salary depends on your city, department and personal stage, so treat every online “salary calculator” figure as an estimate, not a promise.
BPS-17 Salary in Pakistan 2026
BPS-17 is the most searched scale, because it is the entry scale for gazetted officers — Assistant Commissioners, ASPs, Section Officers, Medical Officers, Lecturers and engineers in government departments.
- Starting basic pay: Rs 54,140 per month
- Annual increment: Rs 4,110
- Maximum basic pay: Rs 136,340 (20 stages)
With house rent and other allowances added, a BPS-17 officer’s gross salary is substantially higher than the basic figure. This is also the scale at which most provincial public service commission jobs (SPSC, PPSC, KPPSC, BPSC) recruit — you can see the latest openings in our Government Jobs section.
How Annual Increments and Stages Work
Every scale is a ladder of stages. You start at the minimum (Stage 1) and climb one stage every year with your annual increment on 1 December. Two employees in the same scale can therefore have very different basic pay — a fresh recruit starts at the minimum, while a colleague with 10 years of service is 10 stages higher. When scales are revised, your stage is protected through point-to-point fixation, so you never lose the stages you have earned.
BPS, PPS and SPPS: What Is the Difference?
Not every government job is on BPS. Project and contract posts often use other scales:
- BPS (Basic Pay Scales): regular government posts, covered by the chart above.
- PPS (Project Pay Scales): used for development-project posts in provinces.
- SPPS (Special Professional Pay Scales): used for senior specialist and contract appointments at the federal level, with negotiated packages — for example, the recent OGRA Chairman appointment was offered on SPPS-I.
Always check the advertisement: it states the scale, and the scale decides your pay.
